Fashion for Sickies

Well, how does that title grab ya?  Silly?  I like to be silly, it spices up life a bit.  Ok, for real, I have been sick.  There is some awful virus going around.  It is a tummy bug.  I felt off for awhile before the bomb dropped.  Mine hit in the middle of the night.  I woke up some hours after midnight in terrible tummy pain.  I went to the bathroom in a fog and was not sure what was going on.  Well, I ended up passing out on the bathroom floor and when I came too...it wasn't pretty.  I had vomited while lying on my side (thank God I was on my side).  So there was puddle in front of me and my hair was in it.  Yuck!  Amazingly, I got up and began trying to be a Proverbs 31 woman.  I cleaned up the mess, but feeling weak and faint decided it was necessary to wake hubby to get myself cleaned up.

It was not a good night for either of us, as about an hour or so after the first attack, another attack hit.  Again my tummy was in a knot (with loads of scar tissue its not a good thing).  This time I did not pass out even though the pain was horrendous, but I did break out in a sweat.  Finally the heaving arrived and it was awful and violent.  Thankfully that was the last attack, but it left me weak and I was running a temp.

Its been 4 days since that lovely bout and I am feeling better, but can tell my tummy is not quite normal yet.  Today is the first day since Friday that I have not been in jammies.  So, I thought I would share how a sickie can look fashionable.  You can take it serious or let it be a joke.  Either way, I hope to put a smile on your face.

So here we go with a mini fashion show with a couple pics.  Bear with me as I am not great at taking selfies.

This is a pic of me stylin with jammies.  Jammie pants are ancient hills.  My mom in-law gave them to me and they are well loved.  They had a top to match, that was loved out the door.  So now I have begun wearing them with a simple gray tank (Faded Glory from Walmart) and posing as a robe is a vintage pink sweater from the thrift shop.  I like these fake cashmere sweaters because they are washer & dryer friendly.

This look is a day look for sickies (sorry the pic is not that great).  I am rockin Danskin exercise pants (from Walmart).  They are so comfy!  The top is from Kohl's summer top collection 2014.  I bought it on sale at the end of summer.  Anyway, it is always nice to be comfy when you are not feeling great, but don't want to look like a bum.

So that is my mini fashion show for sickies.  Hope you enjoyed it and it gave you some ideas for being fashionable while not feeling well.  Take good care ladies!  <3

Spring!

Happy Spring!  Here in Colorado the trees are still bare, but there are buds getting ready to open.  My bulbs have sprung and I have bright yellow daffodils in the flower bed.  They are so cheerful after a cold winter.  This week we had a wet heavy snow.  It was a good watering for the flowers, trees and grass.

I recently did some thrifting and came across some good finds.  I found a mug and a boho style silk blouse both from Anthropologie.  The blouse was $3.00 and the mug was a $1.49.  Such a steal!  Here below is a picture of the mug.

I have the mug on a thrifted Noritake china saucer.

Now on to cleaning!  Which spring brings to mind "Spring Cleaning".  In honor of  "spring cleaning" I have a tip that you can use all year.  Did you know that veggie washes have more uses than just washing your veggies?  I use the veggie wash product called "Fit" (but Veggie Wash works too).  I spray Fit on the inside of my mugs after drinking coffee or tea and let it sit a bit, then hand wash with a scrubby in sudsy water.  Doing this will keep the inside of your mugs looking new.  I also use Fit on my wooden cutting boards to eliminate berry stains, beet stains, etc.  I spray the Fit on the stains and then scrub the stain with a scrubby.  Wipe with a sponge or paper towel and walla the stain is gone!

My birthday is on the first day of spring.  This year its birthday #54.  Can't believe it!  Our spirit stays young, but our body, well that is what ages.  I wonder what year #54 has in store?  Well, already I have stories to tell.  One of them is my birthday celebration with my daycare clients.

They took me to Benihana's for my birthday.  I had never been before.  We had a lovely time.  What darlings they all are!  And there is sweet little Isaac, he is such a good boy and I love taking care of him.  So thankful to God for the blessing of these beautiful souls in my life.

BUS Update

Hello!  Time for my Back-up Storage (BUS) update.  Not a whole lot to report I don't think, but lets get into it.

Okay, I got this Desert Essence Unscented conditioner out of BUS and was using it.  Unfortunately, it is not a good fit for my hair.  Hate when that happens, but you don't know until you try.  So I ditched the conditioner and went out and bought another bottle of the Kiss My Face Everyday Conditioner (love it).

Okay, I am currently using the soap pictured here which is made by The Bubbly Soap Co. and the lotion in the blue bottle is Whole Foods brand lavender lotion (I put the lotion in a recycled bottle).  The lotion is nearly done and the soap is probably at the halfway mark.  My daughter in-law used some of the Ala Maison liquid lavender aloe soap (smells good) when she came over one day (she got it out of BUS).  So since she opened it I have used it a couple times myself.

I am nearly done with the Andalou rose lotion pictured here.  It is thick & creamy and my skin loves it.  Still working on the rosewater spray.  And the Ala Maison bar soap remains unopened.  Currently using it as decoration in my master bath.  I went ahead and bought another tube of the Andalou rose lotion on sale.  I know I will be using it as I still have a lot of EO Rose-Chamomile body wash to use up yet.

So that is my BUS update.  Been doing fairly well at not buying anymore products, just a couple.  So far I am really impressed with Andalou products, so I will probably be trying out other products in their line when I have the chance.  But until then, I am looking forward to using something up so I can start using my lemon collection.

Winter Beauty

Hello!  Hope this post finds you doing well and surviving winter.  Here in Colorado we have a nice blanket of snow on the ground and on our roof tops.  This round of snow is now melting off too quickly as the temperature has been very chilly.  When it is cold like this it takes an extra toll on our skin as well as indoor heating.  As for myself, my hands always seem to suffer the most, even when I was a teen.  Now that I am older, my face suffers as well.  But this year, I think I have finally found products that are helping my years long battle with winter.

Pictured above is my face and hand arsenal for the winter.  The two supplements pictured are Krill Oil and Evening Primrose.  I found (through reading about my symptoms) that I was deficient in my Omega 3's & 6's.  As you know these oils help with many things in the body, but they help skin as well.  Since taking them I have notice a difference and my eczema is under better control.

I am still continuing to use the Emu Oil on my face.  As well as an Emugency stick, which is like a big chapstick.  I use it on dry patches that pop up on my face, but mostly I use it as a moisturizer for my delicate eye area.  It works great and is so easy to use.  Of course Burt's Bees lip balm is wonderful.  It is pure and simple and non-irritating to my system.

And then there is hand cream.  Of course I continue to use the Out of Africa which I sometimes also use on my face as well as my hands.  But I have found a new lotion that is wonderful as well.  Its from Bee Happy located here in Erie, Colorado.  I came across their products in a little shop I happened to browse in at Christmas-time.  I have been using the lotion for a few months now and I am happy to say it is wonderful stuff.  Here is their website if you would like to check them out: http://www.beehappylipbalm.com

Other products that I have been using and am impressed with are flower waters.  I am using lavender water and rosewater & glycerin.  Both are refreshing and versatile.  They can be sprayed on the face after washing acting as a toner.  I think the Rosewater & Glycerin is my favorite for winter.  I use it as a body spray and think that it is a great way to get a little extra moisture after lotion is applied.  I also use the Rosewater & Glycerin in my hair before I blow dry it, which gives my hair a great smell as well as moisture & softness.  These flower waters can also be sprayed on a pillow at night for some aromatherapy benefits.

So these are my winter beauty tips.  I hope that these tips help and inspire you to enjoy winter. God bless!

The Days are not Mine

Well, today I had a day off from my job.  Every time I get a day off, I fill with joy.  I begin dreaming of what I will do with my day.  I think I will rise early and jump into my car and go, free to do as I please.  However, lately it has not been working out as I imagine.  A lot of times, I get my best sleep on nights I know I don't have to work so I end up sleeping in.  Then I usually relax sipping a cup of coffee or tea.  I catch up with friends on email, do some planning and/or finish up some housework left undone.

Well today I did relax in the morning, sipping a cup of coffee.  And I did get to some unfinished housework.  Then I went out to do some shopping.  Since I have gained weight, some of my pants have gotten a bit too tight.  I was wearing size 2 to 4 for a long time.  Some of the size 4's still fit, but the size 2's are definitely out.  Anyway, I went out and did some shopping.  I had fun looking through the sale racks and admiring all the cute clothes, trying some on.  But in the end I only purchased a pair of winter gloves that are cell phone friendly (on clearance for $1.29).

While I was out I received a call from my daughter in-law asking if I could watch my grandson because she needed to take my son to the doctor.  He needed treatment for a golf ball sized cyst.  So I finished up my business and headed for home. As I was driving home I realized that my days are not my own, they in reality belong to my Lord.  I had dreamed of driving into the next city over to go to a little furniture shop owned by a woman who buys used furniture and refinishes it into lovely new pieces.  Anyway, I did not get there, instead I felt lead to shop close to home.  God had other plans for my day and what a blessing it was!  What a joy to see my grandson, to see his face light up when he saw me.  To have him want me to hold him, to listen to him babble and to have him kiss me.

Health & Stuff

Well, I am happy to report that I am finally able to gain weight.  Ever since my October 2008 surgery to take down the colostomy, I had issues with pain.  So much so that I was not really able to eat much.  I went on like that until my surgery in April 2013.  After a year of recovery I am finally able to eat normally and I have gained weight.  For the first time in 5 years I have to watch my weight.

One of the ways I am trying to cut calories is to cut back on sugar.  I have been reading a lot about sugar and how unhealthy it is.  However, I have a sweet tooth, so I thought I better cut back slowly.  One of the ways I am trying to cut back is through the use of an alternative sweetener in my tea & coffee...which is Stevia.

Here are a couple of bottles of liquid stevia (NOW brand) that I am using.  One is plain and the other is French vanilla flavored.  It is taking a bit of adjustment, but I just keep thinking about the calories I am saving not to mention the health benefit.  Did you know that too much sugar can be a culprit to higher cholesterol (amongst other things)?

Here is my tea station.  My current favorite teas are the Numi Chocolate Pu-reh, Tazo Chai and Oregon Chai's Dreamscape Herbal Chai, which is made with Rooibos.  However, my ultimate favorite tea is Peppermint.  You know in Germany when I asked for peppermint tea I was given a glass of hot water with fresh peppermint in it and a small bowl of rock sugar.  It was so delicious.  At home I just use peppermint teabags.

By the way, I just recently looked up the benefits of Rooibos tea and was amazed.  Supposedly Rooibos can help relax the body for sleep amongst other claims.  Here is a link to a tea website to check out what your favorite tea can do for you:  http://www.theteatalk.com

This is a picture of my side of the end table in our living room.  I made the knitted coaster for Valentine's Day.  I also painted the cup and the little bowl beside the cup.  I like to do seasonal decor, it keeps things interesting at home.

Behind the glass in the corner of the picture you can see a little tray with bottles.  That is my tray of health goodies for the cold season.  I have it loaded up with things like Olive Leaf and an Olive Leaf throat spray by Barlean's (it works wonders), Mucinex, Advil and a saline nasal spray.  I also have a bottle of Sovereign Silver nasal spray, which I have been using Sovereign Silver for years and I haven't turned blue.  Next to the tray I have a box of tissues, can't be without tissues when a cold hits.

So here's to health!  Hope you all are staying well, but if not, make yourself a little wellness station to pamper yourself while your body works at getting itself back to normal.  Take good care and God bless you!

Happy 1st Birthday!

My grandson is one year old today!  We got to celebrate with him the day before his birthday.  It was a very small party, but very sweet.  Here we are opening presents.  I am with my two favorite little boys (Everett my grandson on my lap and Isaac playing with ribbon).  Both boys 1 year old now.

Here below is Everett having a chocolate birthday cupcake.  That messy face is so adorable!

HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY EVERETT!
with lots of love
